One big happy family! Shyamala Dharma
Krishna loves cows. And we know why; they are lovable, peaceful, full of personality and give copious amounts of affection.
At Krishna Farm we don’t keep cows like units of stock, and calves are not an unwanted product of milk production. We look after all of our cows, including the males, calves and old cows. They are all known by name and live peacefully knowing their life will not be mercilessly cut short simply because they are no longer producing milk.
This model of cow protection is a rarity on modern farms, but is typical of traditional Vedic culture. Vedic culture reveres the cow like a generous and loving Mother who is able to give us health with nourishing milk products. A well cared for cow can provide a huge amount of milk; more than a calf requires for healthy growth. The bull is considered like a Father, who if trained properly, can use their immense power in an integrative agricultural system for ploughing, towing carts, grinding grains, generating electricity, as well as manure for creating biogas, fuel, organic fertilisers and pesticides, building materials and many other useful products and resources.
Our model is of a symbiotic relationship – both ourselves and the cows benefit. The cows are fed sumptuously, given medicines or treatment wherever required, get to spend time with their offspring and live peacefully on green pastures. They clean up and fertilise the fields, give us joy, and occasionally give us milk.
